The Surah · In Two Parts
One hundred and nine verses, read in two sittings. The surah is named for a prophet who appears in only one verse of it, and the reason that verse is there is stated plainly: his people are the single nation in the entire record that believed before the punishment arrived, and were spared. Everything before it and after it is the argument they accepted and others did not. It contains the most exact description in the Book of how a man prays in a crisis and what he does with it afterward, and it names where the whole invitation is going: Allah calls to the Home of Peace.
Part One He Passes On As If He Never Called. A man calling on his side, sitting, and standing, and then walking away from it. The world compared to rain that greens a field right up to the night the command arrives. The best, and more than the best. And a demand for the punishment, answered by a man who says he holds no power over his own harm or benefit. One Town That Believed. No soul carrying another's load, Musa before a court, the sea, the people of Yunus and the exception they became, and the closing instruction to follow what is revealed and be patient.Verses 1 to 53
