The Surah · Verses 1 to 58

Alif-Laaam-Meeem-Saaad

Alif Lam Mim Sad.

Kitaabun unzila ilaika falaa yakum fee sadrika harajum minhu litunzira bihee wa zikraa lilmu'mineen

A Book sent down to you, so let there be no tightness in your chest because of it, so that you may warn with it, and as a reminder for the believers.

Ittabi'oo maaa unzila 'ilaikum mir Rabbikum wa laa tattabi'oo min dooniheee awliyaaa'; qaleelam maa tazakkaroon

Follow what has been sent down to you from your Lord, and do not follow allies besides Him. Little do you take heed.

Wa kam min qaryatin ahlaknaahaa fajaaa'ahaa baasunaa bayaatan aw hum qaaa'iloon

And how many a town We destroyed, and Our force came to it at night or while they were resting at midday.

Famaa kaana da'waahum iz jaaa'ahum baasunaa illaaa an qaalooo innaa kunnaa zaalimeen

And their call when Our force came to them was nothing but to say, we were wrongdoers.

Falanas 'alannal lazeena ursila ilaihim wa lanas 'alannal mursaleen

So We will question those to whom the messengers were sent, and We will question the messengers.

Falanaqussanna 'alaihim bi'ilminw wa maa kunnaa ghaaa'ibeen

Then We will recount to them with knowledge, and We were not absent.

Walwaznu Yawma'izinil haqq; faman saqulat mawaa zeenuhoo fa-ulaaa'ika humul muflihoon

And the weighing that Day is the truth. So whoever's scales are heavy, those are the ones who succeed.

Wa man khaffat mawaazeenuhoo fa ulaaa'ikal lazeena khasirooo anfusahum bimaa kaanoo bi Aayaatinaa yazlimoon

And whoever's scales are light, those are the ones who lost themselves for the wrong they did to Our signs.

Wa laqad makkannaakum fil ardi wa ja'alnaa lakum feehaa ma'aayish; qaleelam maa tashkuroon

And We established you on the earth and made livelihoods for you in it. Little do you give thanks.

Wa laqad khalaqnaakum summa sawwarnaakum summa qulnaa lilmalaaa'ikatis judoo li Aadama fa-sajadooo illaaa Ibleesa lam yakum minas saajideen

And We created you, then We formed you, then We said to the angels, prostrate to Adam. So they prostrated, except Iblis. He was not among those who prostrated.

Qaala maa mana'aka allaa tasjuda iz amartuka qaala ana khairum minhu khalaqtanee min naarinw wa khalaqtahoo min teen

He said, what prevented you from prostrating when I commanded you. He said, I am better than him. You created me from fire and created him from clay.

Qaala fahbit minhaa famaa yakoonu laka an tatakabbara feehaa fakhruj innaka minas saaghireen

He said, then descend from it. It is not for you to be arrogant in it. So get out. You are of the lowly.

Qaala anzirneee ilaa Yawmi yub'asoon

He said, give me time until the Day they are raised.

Qaala innaka minal munzareen

He said, you are of those given time.

Qaala fabimaaa aghway tanee la aq'udanna lahum Siraatakal Mustaqeem

He said, because You have let me go astray, I will certainly sit for them on Your straight path.

Summa la aatiyannahum mim baine aideehim wa min khalfihim wa 'an aimaanihim wa 'an shamaaa'ilihim wa laa tajidu aksarahum shaakireen

Then I will come at them from in front of them and from behind them and from their right and from their left. And You will not find most of them grateful.

Qaalakh ruj mnhaa maz'oomam madhooraa; laman tabi'aka minhum la amla'anna Jahannama minkum ajma'een

He said, get out of it, despised and driven away. Whoever of them follows you, I will fill Hell with all of you.

Wa yaaa Aadamus kun anta wa zawjukal Jannata fakulaa min haisu shi'tumaa wa laa taqrabaa haazihish shajarata fatakoonaa minza zaalimeen

And Adam, dwell, you and your wife, in the garden, and eat from wherever you wish, and do not approach this tree, or you will be of the wrongdoers.

Fawaswasa lahumash Shaitaanu liyubdiya lahumaa maa wooriya 'anhumaa min saw aatihimaa wa qaala maa nahaakumaa Rabbukumaa 'an haazihish shajarati illaaa an takoonaa malakaini aw takoonaa minal khaalideen

Then Satan whispered to them, to show them what had been hidden from them of their nakedness, and he said, your Lord forbade you this tree only so that you would not become angels or become of those who live forever.

Wa qaasamahumaaa innee lakumaa laminan naasiheen

And he swore to them, I am to you a sincere adviser.

Fadallaahumaa bighuroor; falammaa zaaqash shajarata badat lahumaa saw aatuhumaa wa tafiqaa yakhsifaani 'alaihimaa minw waraqil jannati wa naadaahumaa Rabbuhumaaa alam anhakumaa 'an tilkumash shajarati wa aqul lakumaaa innash Shaitaana lakumaa 'aduwwum mubeen

So he brought them down by deception. Then when they tasted the tree, their nakedness became apparent to them, and they began to fasten leaves of the garden over themselves. And their Lord called to them, did I not forbid you that tree and say to you that Satan is a clear enemy to you.

Qaalaa Rabbanaa zalamnaaa anfusanaa wa illam taghfir lanaa wa tarhamnaa lanakoonanna minal khaasireen

They said, our Lord, we have wronged ourselves, and if You do not forgive us and have mercy on us, we will be of the losers.

Qaalah bitoo ba'dukum liba'din aduwwunw wa lakum fil ardi mmustaqarrunw wa mataa'un ilaaheen

He said, descend, some of you enemies to others. And for you on the earth is a place to settle and provision for a time.

Qaala feehaa tahyawna wa feehaa tamootoona wa minhaa tukhrajoon

He said, in it you will live, and in it you will die, and from it you will be brought out.

Yaa Baneee Aadama qad anzalnaa 'alaikum libaasany yuwaaree saw aatikum wa reeshanw wa libaasut taqwaa zaalika khair; zaalika min Aayaatil laahi la'allahum yaz zakkaroon

Children of Adam, We have sent down on you clothing to cover your nakedness, and as adornment. And the clothing of consciousness of Allah, that is better. That is from the signs of Allah, so that they may take heed.

Yaa Banee Aadama laa yaftinannnakumush Shaitaanu kamaaa akhraja abawaikum minal Jannati yanzi'u 'anhumaa libaasahumaa liyuriyahumaa saw aatihimaaa; innahoo yaraakum huwa wa qabeeluhoo min haisu laa tarawnahum; innaa ja'alnash Shayaateena awliyaaa'a lillazeena laa yu'minoon

Children of Adam, do not let Satan tempt you as he drove your parents out of the garden, stripping from them their clothing to show them their nakedness. He sees you, he and his kind, from where you do not see them. We have made the devils allies to those who do not believe.

Wa izaa fa'aloo faahishatan qaaloo wajadnaa 'alaihaaa aabaaa'ana wallaahu amaranaa bihaa; qul innal laaha laa yaamuru bilfahshaaa'i a-taqooloona 'alal laahi mmaa laa ta'lamoon

And when they do an indecency they say, we found our fathers upon it, and Allah commanded us to do it. Say, Allah does not command indecency. Do you say about Allah what you do not know.

Qul amara Rabbee bilqisti wa aqeemoo wujoohakum 'inda kulli masjidin wad'oohu mukhliseena lahud deen; kamaa bada akum ta'oodoon

Say, my Lord has commanded justice. And set your faces straight at every place of prayer, and call on Him, sincere to Him in religion. As He began you, you will return.

Fareeqan hadaa wa fareeqan haqqa 'alaihimud dalaalah; innahumut takhazush Shayaateena awliyaaa'a min doonil laahi wa yahsaboona annnahum muhtadoon

A group He guided, and a group upon whom straying was confirmed. They took the devils as allies besides Allah, and they think that they are guided.

Yaa Banneee Adama khuzoo zeenatakum 'inda kulli masjidinw wa kuloo washraboo wa laa tusrifoo; innahoo laa yuhibbul musrifeen

Children of Adam, take your adornment at every place of prayer, and eat and drink, and do not be excessive. He does not love those who are excessive.

Qul man harrama zeenatal laahil lateee akhraja li'ibaadihee wattaiyibaati minar rizq; qul hiya lillazeena aamanoo fil hayaatid dunyaa khaalisatany Yawmal Qiyaamah; kazaalika nufassihul Aayaati liqawminy ya'lamoon

Say, who has forbidden the adornment of Allah which He brought out for His servants, and the good things of provision. Say, they are for those who believed in the life of this world, purely theirs on the Day of Standing. In this way We lay out the signs in detail for a people who know.

Qul innamaa harrama Rabbiyal fawaahisha maa zahara minhaa wa maa bataa wal isma walbaghya bighairil haqqi wa an tushrikoo billaahi maa lam yunazzil bihee sultaananw wa an taqooloo 'alal laahi maa laa ta'lamoon

Say, my Lord has forbidden only the indecencies, what is open of them and what is hidden, and sin, and oppression without right, and that you associate with Allah what He has sent down no authority for, and that you say about Allah what you do not know.

Wa likulli ummatin ajalun fa izaa jaaa'a ajaluhum laa yastaakhiroona saa'atanw wa laa yastaqdimoon

And for every nation there is a term. So when their term comes, they will not delay it by an hour and they will not advance it.

Yaa Banee Aadama immaa yaatiyannakum Rusulum minkum yaqussoona 'alaikum Aayaatee famanit taqaa wa aslaha falaa khawfun 'alaihim wa laa hum yahzanoon

Children of Adam, if messengers come to you from among yourselves, recounting My signs to you, then whoever is conscious and sets things right, there is no fear upon them, and they will not grieve.

Wallazeena kazzaboo bi Aayaatinaa wastakbaroo 'anhhaaa ulaaa'ika Ashaabun naari hum feehaa khaalidoon

And those who called Our signs a lie and were arrogant toward them, those are the companions of the Fire, remaining in it.

Faman azlamu mimmanif taraa 'alal laahi kaziban aw kazzaba bi Aayaatih; ulaaa'ika yanaaluhum naseebuhum minal Kitaab; hataaa izaa jaaa'at hum rusulunaa yatawaf fawnahum qaalooo aina maa kuntum tad'oonaa min doonil laahi qaaloo dalloo 'annaa wa shahidoo 'alaaa anfusihim annahum kaanoo kaafieen

So who does greater wrong than one who invents a lie against Allah or calls His signs a lie. Those will receive their share from the record, until when Our messengers come to them to take their souls, they will say, where is what you used to call on besides Allah. They will say, they have left us. And they will testify against themselves that they were disbelievers.

Qaalad khuloo feee umamin qad khalat min qablikum minal jinni wal insifin naari kullamaa dakhalat ummatul la'anat ukhtahaa hattaaa izad daarakoo feehaa jamee'an qaalat ukhraahum li oolaahum Rabbannaa haaa'u laaa'i adalloonaa fa aatihim 'azaaban di'fam minan naari qaala likullin di funw wa laakil laa ta'lamoon

He will say, enter among nations that passed before you, of the jinn and mankind, into the Fire. Every time a nation enters, it curses its sister. Until when they have all caught up with one another in it, the last of them will say of the first, our Lord, these led us astray, so give them a double punishment of the Fire. He will say, for each is double, but you do not know.

Wa qaalat oolaahum li ukhraahum famaa kaana lakum 'alainaa min fadlin fazooqul azaaba bimaa kuntum taksiboon

And the first of them will say to the last, you had no advantage over us, so taste the punishment for what you have been earning.

Innal lazeena kazzaboo bi Aayaatinaa wastakbaroo 'anhaa laa tufattahu lahum ahwaabus samaaa'i wa laa yadkhuloonal jannata hattaa yalijal jamalu fee sammil khiyaat; wa kazaalika najzil mujrimeen

Those who called Our signs a lie and were arrogant toward them, the gates of the sky will not be opened for them, and they will not enter the garden until the camel passes through the eye of the needle. In this way We pay the criminals.

Lahum min jahannama mihaadunw wa min fawqihim ghawaash; wa kazaalika najziz zaalimeen

For them is a bed of Hell and above them coverings. In this way We pay the wrongdoers.

Wallazeena aamanoo wa 'amilus saalihaati la nukallifu nafsan illaa wus'ahaaa ulaaa'ika Ashaabul jannati hum feehaa khaalidoon

And those who believed and did righteous deeds, We do not burden a soul beyond its capacity, those are the companions of the garden, remaining in it.

Wa naza'naa maa fee sudoorihim min ghillin tajree min tahtihimul anhaaru wa qaalul hamdu lillaahil lazee hadaanaa lihaaza wa maa kunna linahtadiya law laaa ann hadaanal laahu laqad jaaa'at Rusulu Rabbinaa bilhaqq; wa noodoo an tilkumul jannnatu ooristumoohaa bimaa kuntum ta'maloon

And We will remove whatever is in their chests of resentment. Rivers will flow beneath them, and they will say, praise belongs to Allah who guided us to this, and we would never have been guided if Allah had not guided us. The messengers of our Lord came with the truth. And they will be called, this is the garden you have inherited for what you were doing.

Wa naadaa Ashaabul jannati ashaaban Naari an qad wajadnaa maa wa'adannaa Rabbunaa haqqan fahal wajattum maa wa'ada Rabbukum haqqan qaaloo na'am; fa azzana mu'azzinum bainahum al la'natul laahi 'alaz zaalimeen

And the companions of the garden will call to the companions of the Fire, we have found what our Lord promised us to be true, so have you found what your Lord promised to be true. They will say, yes. Then an announcer will announce between them, the curse of Allah is on the wrongdoers.

Allazeena yasuddoona 'an sabeelil laahi wa yabghoo nahaa 'iwajanw wa hum bil Aakhirati kaafiroon

Those who turn people from the way of Allah and want it crooked, and they are disbelievers in the Hereafter.

Wa bainahumaa hijaab; wa 'alal A'raafi rijaaluny ya'rifoona kullam biseemaahum; wa naadaw Ashaabal jannati an salaamun 'alaikum; lam yadkhuloohaa wa hum yatma'oon

And between them is a barrier. And on the heights are men who know each by their marks. And they will call to the companions of the garden, peace be upon you. They have not entered it, and they are hoping.

Wa izaa surifat absaaruhum tilqaaa'a Ashaabin Naari qaalo Rabbanaa laa taj'alnaa ma'al qawmiz zaalimneen

And when their eyes are turned toward the companions of the Fire, they will say, our Lord, do not place us with the wrongdoing people.

And the companions of the heights will call to men they know by their marks, they will say, your gathering did not help you, nor did your arrogance.

A haaa'ulaaa'il lazeena aqsamtum laa yanaaluhumul laahu birahma; udkhulul Jannata laa khawfun 'alaikum wa laaa antum tahzanoon

Are these the ones you swore Allah would not reach with mercy. Enter the garden. No fear is upon you, and you will not grieve.

Wa naadaaa Ashaabun Naari Ashaabal jannati an afeedoo 'alainaa minal maaa'i aw mimma razaqakumul laah; qaaloo innal laaha harrama humaa 'alal kaafireen

And the companions of the Fire will call to the companions of the garden, pour on us some water, or some of what Allah has provided you. They will say, Allah has forbidden them both to the disbelievers.

Allazeenat takhazoo deenahu lahwanw wa la'i-banw wa gharrat humul hayaatud dunyaa; fal Yawma nnannsaahum kamaa nasoo liqaaa'a Yawmihim haazaa wa maa kaanoo bi aayaatinaa yajhadoon

Those who took their religion as amusement and play, and the life of this world deceived them. So today We forget them as they forgot the meeting of this Day of theirs, and as they used to reject Our signs.

Wa laqad ji'naahum bi Kitaabin fassalnaahu 'alaa 'ilmin hudanw wa rahmatal liqawminy-yu'miinoon

And We brought them a Book which We laid out in detail on knowledge, a guidance and a mercy for a people who believe.

Hal yanzuroona illaa taa weelah; yawma yaatee taaweeluhoo yaqoolul lazeena nasoohu min qablu qad jaaa'at Rusulu Rabbinaa bilhaqq; fahal lanaa min shufa'aaa'a fa yashfa'oo lanaaa aw nuraddu fana'mala ghairal lazee kunnaa na'mal; qad khasirooo anfusahum wa dalla 'anhum maa kaanoo yaftaroon

Are they waiting for anything but its outcome. On the Day its outcome comes, those who forgot it before will say, the messengers of our Lord came with the truth. So do we have any intercessors to intercede for us, or could we be sent back so we could do other than what we did. They have lost themselves, and what they used to invent has left them.

Inna Rabbakkumul laahul lazee khalaqas sammaawaati wal arda fee sittati qiyaamin summmas tawaa 'alal 'arshi yughshil lailan nahaara yatlu buhoo haseesanw washshamsa walqamara wannujooma musakhkharaatim bi amrih; alaa lahul khalqu wal-amr; tabaarakal laahu Rabbul 'aalameen

Your Lord is Allah, who created the heavens and the earth in six days, then rose above the throne. He covers the night with the day, which pursues it swiftly, and the sun and the moon and the stars are made subject by His command. His is the creation and the command. Blessed is Allah, Lord of all worlds.

Ud'oo Rabbakum tadarru'anw wa khufyah; innahoo laa yuhibbul mu'tadeen

Call on your Lord in humility and in private. He does not love those who cross the limits.

Wa laa tufsidoo fil ardi ba'da islaahihaa wad'oohu khawfanw wa tama'aa; inna rahmatal laahi qareebum minal muhsineen

And do not cause corruption on the earth after it has been set right, and call on Him in fear and in hope. The mercy of Allah is near to those who do good.

Wa Huwal lazee yursilur riyaaha bushram baina yadai rahmatihee hattaaa izaaa aqallat sahaaban siqaalan suqnaahu libaladim maiyitin fa annzalnaa bihil maaa'a fa akhrajnaa bihee minn kullis samaraat; kazaalika nukhrijul mawtaa la'allakum tazakkaroon

And He is the One who sends the winds as good news before His mercy, until when they carry heavy clouds We drive them to a dead land and send down water with them, and bring out with it every kind of fruit. In this way We bring out the dead, so that you may take heed.

Walbaladut taiyibu yakhruju nabaatuhoo bi-izni Rabbihee wallazee khabusa laa yakhruju illaa nakidaa; kazaalika nusarriful Aayaati liqawminy yashkuroon

And the good land brings out its plants by the permission of its Lord, and the one that is bad brings out nothing but scarcity. In this way We turn the signs about for a people who are grateful.

The Tafsir · The Breakdown

What This Part Means

Overview

The Longest Account of How It Started.

Verse 2 handles something before it handles anything else. A Book sent down to you, so let there be no tightness in your chest because of it. The man receiving two hundred and six verses of this weight is told first that the weight is not meant to constrict him.

Verse 4 then sets the tone with a detail most readers pass over. Our force came to it at night, or while they were resting at midday. Both are moments of maximum ease. Nobody was destroyed in the middle of a crisis. They were destroyed while comfortable, which is the state the whole chapter is written against.

The account that follows is the fullest version in the Quran of how the human situation began. A command. A refusal. A piece of reasoning offered in defense of the refusal, and it is the first argument ever made. A request for time, granted. A stated plan of attack, permitted to be stated out loud. Then the garden, the whisper, the oath, the taste, the leaves, and the two sentences that separate the man who fell from the one who refused.

The second half of Part One is the courtroom. Nations cursing the nations that came before them. A camel and a needle. Two groups calling to each other across a barrier. And on the barrier itself, men who have entered neither side.

Verses 1 to 25

I Am Better Than Him.

Verse 12 contains the first act of reasoning in the record, and it is formally valid. I am better than him. You created me from fire and created him from clay. The premise is true. Fire was in fact his material, clay was in fact Adam’s. The inference about superiority follows from a widely held assumption about the two substances. And the conclusion is disobedience.

It is worth sitting with that. The failure was not ignorance. It was correct information assembled into an argument, and the argument used against an instruction. Every subsequent version of this in a human life takes the same shape. A true fact, a reasonable inference, and a command not obeyed.

Verses 16 and 17 are the plan, announced. I will sit for them on Your straight path. Then from in front, from behind, from the right, from the left. Four directions are named. Two are not, and readers have noticed for centuries which two are missing, since a man who goes down or looks up is out of the field of approach entirely.

Verse 20 shows the technique. Your Lord forbade you this tree only so that you would not become angels or live forever. The offer is not pleasure. It is upgrade. And it is aimed at two people who were already permanent residents of the garden, which means the thing being offered was a version of what they already had. Then verse 21, and he swore to them. He took an oath, because the claim was not convincing without one.

Verse 22 records the first reflex after the wrong. They began to fasten leaves of the garden over themselves. Covering is instinctive, and it is worth noticing they covered before they were addressed.

And then the whole difference between the two falls, side by side. Verse 12: I am better than him. Verse 23: our Lord, we have wronged ourselves, and if You do not forgive us and have mercy on us, we will be of the losers. Same category of act, opposite response. One argued. One admitted. Everything after that follows from the difference.

Verses 26 to 39

The Clothing You Were Given.

Verse 26 uses one image for two things. Clothing sent down to cover what should be covered, and as adornment. Then, the clothing of consciousness of Allah, that is better. Not instead of. Better. The verse keeps both garments in play and simply ranks them.

Verse 27 then names the method used the first time. He drove your parents out, stripping from them their clothing. The exposure came before the expulsion. And the warning attached is one of the more sober lines in the chapter. He sees you, he and his kind, from where you do not see them. Not a symmetrical contest.

Verse 28 catches an argument still in daily use. When they do something indecent they say, we found our fathers upon it, and Allah commanded us to do it. Two defenses stacked. Inheritance, then divine authorization. The reply separates them and destroys the second in six words. Allah does not command indecency.

Then verses 31 to 33, which are the most misread verses in the chapter by people who assume religion begins with restriction. Take your adornment at every place of prayer. Eat and drink. The only limit attached is excess. Then verse 32 asks directly, who has forbidden the adornment of Allah which He brought out for His servants. The question is aimed at people making religion smaller than it is. Only after all of that does verse 33 give the actual list of what was forbidden, and it ends with speaking about Allah without knowledge, which is the same failure the whole passage has been correcting.

Verses 38 and 39 record the argument in the fire and it is the most familiar sound in the passage. The later group blames the earlier one for leading them. The earlier group replies that the later ones had no advantage over them, meaning you had everything we had and made the same choice. The verdict, for each is double, refuses to let either side off.

Verses 40 to 58

The Men on the Heights.

Verse 42 does something structurally unusual. In the middle of describing the people of the garden, the sentence breaks to insert, We do not burden a soul beyond its capacity, and then resumes. The clause is not in a verse about hardship. It is placed inside the reward, as if to say the standard that got them there was never beyond them, and it was never beyond you either.

Verse 43 removes what people carry in. We will remove whatever is in their chests of resentment. Not their sins. Their grudges. And then the first sentence they speak on entering: praise belongs to Allah who guided us to this, and we would never have been guided if Allah had not guided us. After a lifetime of effort, the first thing said is a denial of self-credit.

Then verse 46 and the name of the chapter. Between the two groups is a barrier, and on the heights are men who know each side by their marks. They greet the garden with peace, they have not entered it, and they are hoping. Then in verse 47, when their eyes are turned toward the fire, they pray not to be placed there. Nothing in the text tells us what they did to end up there. Anyone certain about his own outcome should sit with these men.

Verse 49 delivers the reversal. Are these the ones you swore Allah would not reach with mercy. Somebody, on earth, was confident enough about another man’s destination to swear an oath about it. That oath is read back to him at the moment the man he wrote off is told, enter the garden, no fear is upon you.

Verse 51 diagnoses the group being addressed. They took their religion as amusement and play, and the life of this world deceived them. Religion was not abandoned. It was demoted to entertainment, kept for occasions, enjoyed and not obeyed.

Verse 55 then gives the instruction for what to do about all of this, and it is small. Call on your Lord in humility and in private. Two conditions, one about posture and one about audience.

And verses 57 and 58 close on the image the whole chapter has been building toward. The same clouds are driven, the same water falls, and the good land brings out its plants while the bad land brings out almost nothing. Identical rain. The difference was never in the rain.

Structural Summary

Verses One to Fifty-Eight. I Am Better Than Him.

A chest told not to tighten. Towns taken at night and at midday rest. The first argument ever made, formally valid and wrong. A plan announced from four directions and not from two. An oath sworn to make a lie land. Leaves fastened before anyone was called. Two responses to one fall. Clothing ranked without either being discarded. Adornment defended against the people shrinking it. Two groups in the fire each blaming the other. Grudges removed at the gate. Men standing on a wall, hoping. An oath about another man’s destination, read back. And one rain falling on two kinds of ground.

The Practice

Take It Into the Week

Verse 12. The verse is a valid argument used against a command. Find the place where you have built a reasonable case for not doing something you already know is required. Do the thing this week without dismantling the argument. It does not need dismantling.

Verse 43. The verse says the resentment is removed at the gate. Name one grudge you are carrying that you intend to keep. Begin removing it yourself now rather than having it taken from you later.

Verse 49. The verse reads a man’s oath about someone else’s destination back to him. Identify the person you have quietly written off. Make dua for them by name tonight.
