How this prayer differsFajr is two fard rakat, the fewest of the five prayers. The fard are the obligatory units of the prayer.
Both rakat are recited aloud. This is a jahri prayer, the voice raised in the Fatiha and the surah of each rakat.
The Adhan carries a line no other prayer has. As salaatu khayrun minan nawm, prayer is better than sleep, recited after the call to success.
With only two rakat there is a single sitting, the final Tashahhud. There is no middle sitting.
The dawn recitation is witnessed by the angels of the night and the day. The Prophet, peace be upon him, said that whoever prays Fajr in congregation is as one who has stood the whole night in prayer.

اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّ هَذِهِ الدَّعْوَةِ التَّامَّة، وَالصَّلَاةِ القَائِمَة، آتِ مُحَمَّدًا الْوَسِيلَةَ وَالْفَضِيلَة، وَابْعَثْهُ مَقَامًا مَحْمُودًا الَّذِي وَعَدْتَه
Allahumma Rabba haadhihid da'watit taammah, was salaatil qaa'imah, aati Muhammadanil waseelata wal fadeelah, wab'athhu maqaaman mahmoodanil ladhee wa'adtah
O Allah, Lord of this perfect call and established prayer, grant Muhammad the intercession and favor, and raise him to the praised station You have promised him

Make your intention silently in the heart to pray the two fard rakat of Fajr, facing the Qiblah.
In Fajr, the Fatiha and the surah of both rakat are recited aloud.
Raise both hands to the ears and say:
اللهُ أَكْبَر
Allahu Akbar
Allah is the Greatest
Place the right hand over the left hand on the chest.
Recited silently in the first rakat only.
سُبْحَانَكَ اللَّهُمَّ وَبِحَمْدِكَ، وَتَبَارَكَ اسْمُكَ، وَتَعَالَى جَدُّكَ، وَلَا إِلَهَ غَيْرُك
Subhaanaka Allahumma wa bihamdika, wa tabaarakasmuka, wa ta'aalaa jadduka, wa laa ilaaha ghayruk
Glory be to You, O Allah, and all praise is Yours. Blessed is Your name, exalted is Your majesty, and there is no god besides You
أَعُوذُ بِاللهِ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيم
A'oodhu billahi minash shaytaanir rajeem
I seek refuge in Allah from Satan, the accursed

Guide us to the straight path
صِرَاطَ الَّذِينَ أَنْعَمْتَ عَلَيْهِمْ غَيْرِ الْمَغْضُوبِ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا الضَّالِّين
Siraatal Ladheena An'amta 'Alayhim Ghayril Maghdoobi 'Alayhim Walad Daalleen
The path of those upon whom You have bestowed favor, not of those who have earned Your anger or of those who are astray

وَالْعَصْر
Wal 'Asr
By the oath of time
إِنَّ الْإِنسَانَ لَفِي خُسْر
Innal insaana lafee khusr
Indeed, mankind is in loss
إِلَّا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ وَتَوَاصَوْا بِالْحَقِّ وَتَوَاصَوْا بِالصَّبْر
Illal ladheena aamanoo wa 'amilus saalihaati wa tawaasaw bil haqqi wa tawaasaw bis sabr
Except for those who have believed and done righteous deeds, and advised each other to truth, and advised each other to patience

Say Allahu Akbar and bow, placing the hands on the knees with the fingers spread out and the back straight.
سُبْحَانَ رَبِّيَ الْعَظِيم
Subhaana Rabbiyal 'Adheem
سُبْحَانَ رَبِّيَ الْعَظِيم

Glory be to my Lord, the Most Great
Stand fully upright and say:
سَمِعَ اللهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَه
Sami'Allahu liman hamidah
Allah hears the one who praises Him
Then say:
رَبَّنَا وَلَكَ الْحَمْد
Rabbanaa wa lakal hamd
Our Lord, and to You is all praise
Say Allahu Akbar and go down into prostration in this order: knees first, then the palms, then the nose, then the forehead. Seven points rest on the ground: the forehead with the nose, both palms, both knees, and the toes of both feet.
سُبْحَانَ رَبِّيَ الْأَعْلَى

From the evil of the retreating whisperer
الَّذِي يُوَسْوِسُ فِي صُدُورِ النَّاس
Alladhee yuwaswisu fee sudoorin Naas
Who whispers in the hearts of mankind
مِنَ الْجِنَّةِ وَالنَّاس
Minal jinnati wan Naas
From among the jinn and mankind

Say Allahu Akbar and bow, placing the hands on the knees with the fingers spread out and the back straight.

Remain seated after the second sujud. Sit on the left foot with the right foot upright. Raise the right index finger.
التَّحِيَّاتُ لِلَّهِ وَالصَّلَوَاتُ وَالطَّيِّبَات، السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُه، السَّلَامُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللهِ الصَّالِحِين، أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُه
At tahiyyaatu lilaahi was salawaatu wat tayyibaatu. As salaamu 'alayka ayyuhan Nabiyyu wa rahmatullahi wa barakaatuh. As salaamu 'alaynaa wa 'alaa 'ibaadillahis saaliheen. Ash hadu an laa ilaaha illallahu wa ash hadu anna Muhammadan 'abduhu wa rasooluh
All greetings, prayers, and good things are for Allah. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and His messenger
اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَى آلِ مُحَمَّد، كَمَا صَلَّيْتَ عَلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَعَلَى آلِ إِبْرَاهِيم، إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيد
Allahumma salli 'alaa Muhammadin wa 'alaa aali Muhammad, kamaa sallayta 'alaa Ibraaheema wa 'alaa aali Ibraaheem, innaka Hameedun Majeed
O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad and upon the family of Muhammad, as You sent blessings upon Ibrahim and upon the family of Ibrahim. You are indeed Praiseworthy, Most Glorious
اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَى آلِ مُحَمَّد، كَمَا بَارَكْتَ عَلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَعَلَى آلِ إِبْرَاهِيم، إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيد
Allahumma baarik 'alaa Muhammadin wa 'alaa aali Muhammad, kamaa baarakta 'alaa Ibraaheema wa 'alaa aali Ibraaheem, innaka Hameedun Majeed
O Allah, bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, as You blessed Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim. You are indeed Praiseworthy, Most Glorious
A common supplication before ending the prayer:
اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ عَذَابِ جَهَنَّم، وَمِنْ عَذَابِ الْقَبْر، وَمِنْ فِتْنَةِ الْمَحْيَا وَالْمَمَات، وَمِنْ شَرِّ فِتْنَةِ الْمَسِيحِ الدَّجَّال
Allahumma innee a'oodhu bika min 'adhaabi jahannam, wa min 'adhaabil qabr, wa min fitnatil mahyaa wal mamaat, wa min sharri fitnatil maseehid dajjaal
O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the torment of Hellfire, from the torment of the grave, from the trials of life and death, and from the evil of the trial of the False Messiah

Turn your head to the right and say:
السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ الله
As salaamu 'alaykum wa rahmatullah
Peace and mercy of Allah be upon you
Turn your head to the left and say:
السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ الله
As salaamu 'alaykum wa rahmatullah
Peace and mercy of Allah be upon you
